Eye wrinkles and lines (also called crow´s feet) have different causes, mainly:

• Aging
• Sun damage
• Eye muscle movement
• Surgery
• Scars
• Gravity
• Smoking
• Pimples

Eye wrinkles and lines appear because the dermis (the lower layer of skin) starts getting thick irregularly, and also because the amount of water in the epidermis (top layer of the skin) starts decreasing due to damage by the sun and other toxins like smoke.

The appearance of eye wrinkles due to the aging process are caused by muscle movements, and even when you are young, you can still see where eye wrinkles will eventually appear, when you squint little and very fine wrinkles appear in the corner of your eyes, when you stop squinting the go away, these are called dynamic lines, but little by little these lines will stop going away entirely and will become “static lines” these permanent marks or eye wrinkles are the results of the process of aging, as the skin loses collagen and with it its elasticity to return to its original position, so eventually all dynamic wrinkles, become static wrinkles.

There are many different treatments for eye wrinkles. The best way is to prevent them by using moisturizers and sunblock creams or lotions, but once they are there you can use antiging creams available over the counter with different results, and if you want to try something more permanent you can try eye wrinkle laser treatments, botulinum toxin (Botox) that paralizes the muscle so dynamic lines stop appearing, plastic or esthetic surgery (commonly called as facelift) to cut the extra part of the skin and re-smooth the eye wrinkles back to its original position.

There are also collagen injections that are applied directly into the affected area, to stop the decreasing of collagen that comes normally with age, and giving elasticity back to the skin.
